Hey guys! So I wanted to make some smoked meat and share with you all the recipe, because it’s so good, and it’s actually easy to do. I’ve smoked pork two times now, so I’m practically a professional at it. 😉
I kid. I’m sure the real professionals know way more than me, but if this is something you’re wanting to try out to get that flavor of smoke into a meat of your choice this would be the beginners version.
To make a smoker you just need a charcoal grill, charcoal, wood chips, lighter cubes, and a pan to put water in and catch the juices.
Arrange the charcoal to go around the grill in a half circle and light the lighter cubes and let the charcoal burn to get the coals hot.
When the coals are heating up fix the meat.
What you need for the pork.
Pork loin 4-5 pounds (the package we got had already cut pieces in it)
2 tablespoons of paprika
1 1/2 Tsb of salt
1 1/2 Tsb of pepper
1 Tsb of ground cumin
1/2 tsp of cayenne pepper
1 tsp chili powder
1 Tsb of garlic powder
1 tsp mustard powder
2 Tsb brown sugar
Mix all of the ingredients in a bowl then rub the mixture all over. cover with foil or plastic wrap and let it sit. You can also do this a couple hours before or the night before to let it really start to marinate.
When the coals are hot spread the wood chips all over the coals and then, pour some water in the pan and put the grate on. Put the meat on and cover.
Now I just let the meat smoke for about 3-4 hours to let it get the smokey taste. Then let it finish cooking in the crock pot. I do it like this because you’re not having to constantly babysit the coals to make sure they’re staying hot. Plus you know for sure the meat gets cooked all the way through. Of course if you want to let it cook all the way through you can just leave it, and cook it the other way by smoking it, but I don’t have the patience for it. Lol
Plus it makes your house smell amazing!
After it’s all cooked you can have it with some mac & cheese, or keep it simple like I did and have it with a baked potato and enjoy the delicious juicy smoky pulled pork. Have it with some barbecue sauce (like my own recipe) or whatever you like. You can even have it by itself so you can taste the smoky spiciness all on it’s own.
