It’s officially flower and plant season! And I don’t know about you guys but I like to have plants that are low maintenance, but still look pretty and unique. So I wanted to share some tips of what I do to keep my porch looking fabulous and pretty all summer.
**side note**Funny story about that odd chair. We got this patio furniture set, and it had 2 chairs and the love seat and a coffee table. And one day I walked outside and realized one of the chairs was stolen. I was surprised and wondered why someone would steal my chair. But that’s life sometimes, lol.
1. Keep it clean!
This may seem like common sense, but its something that’s often overlooked. One of the easiest ways to make your porch (or any space) to look nice is to clean it up. What I’ll do is throw away the old junk that accumulates over the winter, and give the space a good sweeping to get all the dirt and leaves and whatever else may be there. And clean the windows to get all the dirt off. This can be a challenge because we live next to a gravel ally so there’s always dust on the porch, but if I make it a weekly task to clean things up it stays tidy.
2. Invest in furniture
Your outdoor space is just as important as the inside of your home. So it’s good to get some nice patio furniture to have, it may seem like it’s expensive or the money can be put to better use. But if you get some nice furniture it’s more enjoy the space and appreciate the great outdoors. Plus the furniture lasts a long time, we’ve had this set for years and it’s still in great shape.
3. Make your porch your own
I always love to have a mix of plants that are a little different and unique. One of the plants I love to have is succulents, because they’re easy to take care of, and pretty. I also painted on my pots to make them pretty and more “customized” and they look more expensive and different rather than a regular terracotta pot. You can easily do this to go with the colors of your house as well. It’s all about having the plants and flowers that you like.
4. Get the easy ones
As I mentioned in the last tip I love to have succulents because they’re low maintenance, and easy to take care of. I also love them because you don’t have to water them that often. I always like to get plants that don’t have to be watered all the time, so I only have to water them one a week or so.
5. Get colorful plants
Who says all plants have to be green? I like to get plants that are colorful, since our house colors are teal and cream it’s easy to get colorful plants that go with the the place. I also like to have a mix of different colors and textures to keep it interesting too. It really just depends on what your preference is.
6. Get Herby
A way to have fresh herbs is to plant them of course. I like to plant herbs in pots to have on my porch, that way I can just walk outside and get what I want when I’m cooking. I’ll usually plant them in a pot that’s about 15 inches wide so the plants can grow to be big and hearty! You can also do this with lettuce and other vegetable plants, I’m planning on planting tomatoes and some other plants this summer too.
Well that’s all for my tips, again I will say to just make the space your own. If you don’t know where to start, just look on Pinterest for ideas and do some research for plants to have an idea of how you want the space to look, and know a little about the plants you wan to get. You can follow our gardening Pintrest board to see the plants we like/want, lol.
I hope you have a great weekend!!
