Peppercorn Steak & Mushrooms with Try the World

Bonjour everyone! We’re so excited because we got our new Try the World box, and this month’s country is France! Peppercorn Steak & Mushrooms with Try the World

Our France box came with a lot of goodies this time! The difference between this box and some of the past ones is that this was originally their first box ever. They started with France, and now they decided to do it again, and take it up a notch.  Our favorite item from this month’s box was the Christian Potier Peppercorn Sauce, which we’re using in our recipe below. We liked a lot of the other items in the box as well, including the Caramels Tendres, Persillade Herb Blend, and Fig Jam.

 Try the World also always includes a great culture to give you some recipe inspiration for your box, as well as more info about each item. The culture guide not only says more about the country but more about the products, if they are from a family business, organic etc. So you can really get to know each item and the regions they’re from.

Peppercorn Steak & Mushrooms with Try the World

We decided to use our box to make some delicious Peppercorn Steak & Mushrooms! We were going to do this steak on the grill, but the weather definitely wasn’t cooperating. Grr! Regardless, we made a nice pan seared steak using our box!

You’ll need:

1 Steak
Christian Potier Peppercorn Sauce
1 Onion
2 Tbsp Garlic
Portobello Mushrooms
Persillade Herb Blend
Salt
Pepper

To get started you want to season your steak. We used the Persillade Herb Blend from our France box, along with a bit of salt and pepper to season. To get the flavors more throughout the meat, let it sit with the seasoning on it for a while. We left ours, covered, for about 15-20 min.

Peppercorn Steak & Mushrooms with Try the World

While you’re waiting for your steak to marinate, you can start prepping your mushrooms, onion, and garlic. Cook the mushrooms and garlic in a pan or skillet really quickly. Once they start to cook, add mushrooms. Cook until Mushrooms are done, and sit aside.

Peppercorn Steak & Mushrooms with Try the World

Now that your steak is nice and flavorful, heat a skillet, and once it’s hot, add your steak. Sear for about 5 minutes on each side. You can cook it more or less depending on how well done you like your steak. For us, 5 minutes each was good.

While your steak is searing, add the peppercorn sauce to your onion/mushroom mixture. Let it heat throughout. This will be your peppercorn mushroom sauce to go along with your steak.

Once your steak is done, simply cut into strips, and pour the peppercorn & mushroom sauce on top. You can pair with some yummy sides like garlic mashed potatoes to really make this take off! This is a great dinner idea for any night of the week. Plus you can cook your steak on the grill instead of searing, to really give it a boost of flavor.
