It seems like tassel garlands have been on the rise since last fall. I can see why since they add a fun element to a party or room! I kept seeing tassel garland DIY’s pop up on my Pinterst homepage and looked to see how these things are made, and wanted one in my room so I decided to take the plunge and make one!
When deciding on what I wanted the tassels to be full and colorful so I decided to use tissue paper. For colors I picked 3 colors that are already in my room to tie it together. Since you can get tissue paper in a variety of different colors, and it’s cheap it seemed like the best option. Going into this I did some research on Pinterest and it took some trial and error but I figured out what technique works best! Here is the pin I found and used for reference.
First off start by folding a paper sheet in half and fold it in half once more, and again making it one forth of the sheet. Now up towards the center of the paper, but don’t go up all the way but two inches, you need that whole piece in tact to have a middle in the tassel. You see here that I’m using scissors, which works fine, but it takes FOREVER! So I stated to use an xacto knife and that worked a lot better. If you have one, use an xacto knife and cut the strips on a cutting board so you don’t damage your table.
Once the strips are cut, unfold them and start to twist the middle together. It’ll look kind of like a pom pom, but don’t start cheering yet. Make a loop with the center so you have a hole, and hot glue the parts together. Now repeat repeat repeat, and you’ll have a tassel garland.
I’ll be honest this DIY took me a couple days to do, mostly because I don’t have a lot of free time. But it was easy to do, and I love it because it added that extra something I wanted above my TV.
