I’m so excited for this post to be on the blog! We’ve talked about doing elbow patches since last year and decided to finally make them this year. Instead of doing regular ones we wanted to make them heart shaped since its more fun and adds a little some extra rather than being an oval patch.
Here’s the cardigan before, it’s just a plain basic black cardigan. You can use really any piece of clothing that you already have in your wardrobe. But I decided to do add the patches on a basic piece that I wear all the time to give some extra sparkle to my outfits.
Naturally we decided to make these patches more glamorous by using sequins. And this was super easy to make too. All you need is liquid stitch, sequin trim, and a heart stencil. I just drew and cut a heart from a piece of paper.
Start out by marking where the patches will go by putting the cardigan on, and marking where the elbows are. This is a little easier if you have someone else help but you can use a mirror if you’re alone. Once you have an idea of where the patches will go, use the stencil and make a line of glue around the heart. Once you have the first line put the sequins on the glue.
Keep putting glue on working your way in the middle, then cut it when you get to the middle, and run out of room. Then repeat on the other sleeve. Once you’re done, keep both of the sleeves flat, and let them dry for a few hours, or overnight. I just would wait for a day until you wear it. Also when you wash the cardigan make sure you turn the sweater inside out and put it in a mesh bag or on the gentle cycle, otherwise it might come apart like mine did after the first wash, but I just re-glued it.
That’s a for this DIY, did I say it was easy or what? I want to do this with a lot of my other sweaters and tops I have to make them look different and cool! We’ll show what else we do for sure!
